Charity bazaar for the reconstruction of the Cathedral of the Bright Resurrection of Christ was held in the Taleon Club The Cathedral of the Bright Resurrection of Christ on Smolensky cemetery is a unique architectural monument of Naryshkin baroque style of the early XXth century. In 1921 the burial service over a great Russian poet Alexander Blok was read here. But the destiny of the church after the revolution was tragic: after 76 years of "state protection" the inner decoration and gilded domes were almost totally destructed. The Guardianship of the Blessed Xenia of Saint-Petersburg, created in 2004 in order to restore the sanctuaries of Smolensky cemetery, organized in the Taleon Club a charity evening for the renovation of the Cathedral. The bazaar gathered the representatives of spiritual and temporal powers, business circles and public organizations. The representative of the Governor of St.Petersburg in the Legislative Assembly Mikhail Brodsky stressed the necessity of the restoration of the city monuments and of the religious enlightenment of Saint Petersburgers. The Representative of the Romanov House in Russia Ivan Artsishevsky read the message from the Princes Nikolai Romanovich and Dimitrii Romanovich wishing those who had gathered in the Taleon Club spiritual forces and unity for the sake of such a noble undertaking. |
